If you’re looking for ways to get outside and enjoy the spring weather, look no further! Lynchburg has some amazing outdoor spots and activities for you to enjoy. Whether you’re looking to go for a hike, bike ride, or just take in the scenery, there’s something for everyone. Here are five of our favorites!

-Blackwater Creek Natural Area: Encompassing 288 acres of land, the Blackwater Creek Natural Area is the largest of the city parks. It has many miles of trails, several picnic sites, scenic vistas, an off-leash dog park, and a multiuse athletic field. Its the perfect location for hiking, running, and biking while being just minutes from the city.

-Horseback Riding: There are several stables near Lynchburg that provide horseback riding lessons and trail rides. The Lynchburg area offers miles of horse-riding trails for riders of all skill levels. This is a great activity for all ages and a great way to explore the beautiful Virginia countryside!

-Crabtree Falls: Crabtree Falls is one of the tallest sets of waterfalls in the United States east of the Mississippi River and is just a short drive from Lynchburg! This is a moderate 2.7 mile trail that wanders through the mountainside, offering scenic views of 5 major cascades falling a total distance of 1200 feet.

-McAfee Knob: McAfee’s Knob, one of the most popular hikes on the Appalachian Trail, is just south-west of Lynchburg near Roanoke. This 8 mile trail offers breathtaking views from a peak of of 3,197 feet. The hike is challenging but the views from the top are definitely worth it!

Downtown Lynchburg -Downtown Lynchburg: A visit to Historic Downtown Lynchburg is a great way to spend an afternoon or weekend. Stroll through downtown and enjoy local shops, restaurants, breweries, and much more! Visit the Lynchburg Museum, Art Alley, Riverfront Park, or one of the many other historic landmarks around downtown.
